He was preceded in death by his parents, Geraldine and Albert Hodge; brothers, Robert and Ronald Hodge and brother-in-law Jim Miller. St. Patrick Baseball wins District Title
On Saturday, the Shamrocks competed in their districts. In game one, the Shamrocks defeated Lansing Christian 15-0 in three innings. Eight Shamrocks had hits in the game, led by Charlie Thelen and Tyler Thelen who each had two hits. Sean Fedewa got the win on the mound for St. Patrick. Portland Baseball falls in District Finals
The Raiders traveled to Charlotte on Saturday for district play. In the semi-final round, Portland defeated Eaton Rapids 5-0. Max Sandborn threw a complete game shut out for the Raiders, striking out four and holding the Greyhounds to just four hits. Sandborn also led the Portland offense with three hits. Deacon Townsend added two hits. In the finals, the Raiders out hit Charlotte 9-6, but just left too many runners on base. Portland ended up losing by a score of 6-4.

PHS Varsity Boys Golf Enjoys Successful Season
John Snellenberger serves as coach of the Portland High School Varsity Boys Golf Team. He said that the boys had a positive and successful season in 2026. “We improved from start to finish,” he said. “All of the boys showed improvement.” The team this year was composed of six seniors and of one junior. “Our strongest showing this year was at the league tournament,” said Snellenberger. “We took third place at the tournament, having had a great day at MSU’s Forest Acres W

Raider softball gets two wins over St. Johns, Wins District Championship
The Lady Raiders traveled to St. Johns on Tuesday. In game one, the Raiders won 6-2. Portland tallied 14 hots in the game. Madison Daggett led the offense with four hits. Bella Spitzley, Lilly Thelen, Rylee Miller, Brynn Nelson and Veda Smith each had two hits for Portland. Molli Miilu got the win in the circle going seven innings and striking out eight. The Shamrocks hosted a remake game on Friday, May 22nd, against Central Montcalm. The Shamrocks took two losses and competed strongly however fell two runs short in both games. On Memorial Day, Monday May 25th, Portland’s VFW Post 4090 has a number of events scheduled. 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM - Memorial Day Breakfast at VFW 4090. Free breakfast for veterans. Raider and Shamrock Baseball teams both featured in Diamond Classic field
The St. Patrick and Portland High School baseball teams were both honored among the top schools in the area with invitations to the 64th Dean Shippey Capital Diamond Classic. This year’s tournament is being held at McLane Stadium at MSU. The 2026 tournament field also includes Haslett, DeWitt, Lakewood, Okemos, Lansing Catholic, Williamston, Mason, and Grand Ledge. Local High School Students Selected for Prestigious Statewide Sutton Foster Competition
Two students from the Portland High School theater program have been selected to participate in the statewide Sutton Foster Awards competition, recognizing outstanding achievement in high school musical theater across Michigan.
