Seeking questions for School Board Candidates

School boards in Michigan have numerous responsibilities in overseeing local education. Ultimately, they are tasked with ensuring the effective operation of local school districts.
These responsibilities include:
· Policy Development
· Budget Management
· Curriculum Oversight
· Superintendent Oversight
· Community Engagement
On November 3rd, residents within the Portland school district will have the opportunity to cast their vote for three of five candidates. According to the Ionia County Clerks website, the candidates are:
· Angela Shinaver
· Douglas A. Logel, Jr.
· Roy Atherton
· Greg Smith
· Nathan Smith
We are asking our readers to submit questions they have for these candidates no later than September 14th. We will take these submissions and present approximately 10 select questions to the candidates, with plans of posting a summary of the final questions from our readers and answers from candidates on The Portland Beacon or around October 1st.
If you should have a question for these candidates, please email it to jim@theportlandbeacon.com no later than Monday, September 14th.

Inviting residents to submit questions gives the community a useful opportunity to hear directly from the school board candidates about issues such as curriculum, budgets, and district priorities. For organizing questions drafted on paper, turn handwritten questions into text can also make them easier to compile and review.
There is no finish line in Snow Rider waiting at the bottom and no opportunity to slow your sled down.
