Local High School Students Selected for Prestigious Statewide Sutton Foster Competition
Two students from the Portland High School theater program have been selected to participate in the statewide Sutton Foster Awards competition, recognizing outstanding achievement in high school musical theater across Michigan. Raider Softball wins four of last five games
On Saturday, May 16th, the Raiders faced Owosso, Saranac and Williamston. Owosso 9, Portland 6 Both teams had nine hits in the game, but the Trojans were able to drive more of their runners in to score. Bella Spitzley and Molli Miilu each had two hits for Portland. Shamrock Softball drops two to Dansville, wins Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart Tournament
The St. Patrick’s Girls Varsity Softball team finished the CMAC league matchups on May 14th with a doubleheader loss in Dansville. The Shamrocks lost 1-10 in Game 1, and 0-11 in Game 2. In game one, Macie Leonard pitched and had three strikeouts, Gracelyn Rockey had a homerun, and Maria Austen and Lily Sandborn both added a hit. Portland’s Makayla Evensen signs to play volleyball and run track at University of Findlay
Makayla Evensen, a 2026 PHS graduate, recently signed to play volleyball and run track at the University of Findlay next year. Evensen is receiving a full dual scholarship to participate in both sports at the NCAA Division II school in Findlay OH. Evensen qualified for the MHSAA Division 2 State rack meet recently. Portland’s Brad Meyers commits to GVSU Wrestling
2026 Portland High School graduate Brad Meyers will be wrestling at Grand Valley State University next year. Meyers finished his senior season undefeated at 54-0, claiming the 190-pound state championship. He was a three-time state qualifier and earned All-State honors in all three appearances. He was named Ionia County wrestler of the year 2026, and Lansing State Journal wrestler of the year 2026. Meyers was also a standout on the football field for the Raiders, and is

Sally Lucille (Sines) Francis, age 87, of Portland, Michigan, completed her earthly journey and stepped into glory on May 13, 2026. Born November 11, 1938, to William and Doris (Reed) Sines, Sally was a strong, compassionate woman whose quiet courage and steady kindness shaped every life she touched.
