Luke Robydek competed in Champion's Day at Comerica Park

Throughout the Summer of 2026, the Detroit Tigers held 16 youth baseball and softball camps throughout Michigan and Northern Ohio.
Campers at each camp participate in skill competitions. After the final camp of the summer, campers with the top scores in these competitions are invited to the Champions Day Finals at Comerica Park.
Portland’s Luke Robydek participated in the event this year
Luke’s mother Michelle Robydek told the Beacon, “Luke participated with 80 other ball players at Champions Day. They said there were around 1300 campers this past summer. Luke was ranked in the top 10 in the Skills Competition for the entire summer. They keep stats on their scores from the week-long camp they attend. Then they are chosen to participate in the Champions Day if they stay in the top 10. The top 3 of this day will be recognized at a Tigers game next spring. Luke and a few of his friends have attended this Tigers camp for the past 4 summers.”
Participants at Champion's Day competed in three events.
90’ Run – campers will run H-1B. This is from a regular running position start. Two runs.
Exit Velocity – batted ball speed off tee. Three swings. Bats are provided to ensure fairness (someone using a USA bat v USSSA bat).
Baseball Bats: 28/16, 30/20, 30/22, 32/27, 32/29
Softball Bats: 27/16, 29/18, 30/20, 31/21, 33/23
75’ Throw – campers will field a groundball and throw it into a net 75’ away. The clock starts when ball hits the glove and stops when it hits the net.
