Obituary for Barry “Bud” Russell Moyer

Barry “Bud” Russell Moyer, of Grand Ledge, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2026 at the age of 93. He was born on the family farm in Eagle Township, Michigan on October 15, 1932 to Russell and Emma (Haueter) Moyer.
A proud veteran, Bud served his country with honor during the Korean War assigned to the Marine Corps as a medic from 1952-1956.
He worked at the Oldsmobile Division of General Motors after completing high school and retired 35 years later after having risen from a line worker to assistant superintendent of quality control. Bud enjoyed an active and fulfilling retirement for 44 years…thanks GM!
As a man of his generation, and in keeping with Moyer family values, Bud was honest, hardworking, loyal, and generous. He always held a soft spot for anyone needing a helping hand and would not hesitate to reach out to give it. As his grandson Ryan once observed, “He didn’t want the world, but he wanted everyone to have a bit of it.”
Bud had a lifelong passion for gardening and delighted in sharing the harvest with anyone who would be willing to take all those darn zucchinis. It was frequently pointed out to him that you could buy produce at the grocery store more cheaply and without all the work. To that he would respond, “I know that’s true, but I just like to watch things grow.”
Bud found joy and satisfaction in family life. He was a devoted husband of Carolyn Dianne (Weaver) Moyer for 50 years and a proud and loving father to his three children, all of whom greatly appreciated the ways in which he helped them grow.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Emma Moyer; wife, Carolyn Dianne Moyer; son, Richard Moyer; 14 brothers and sisters and numerous in-laws. He is survived by his daughters Dawn (Keith) Gibbs, Pamela (James Dore) Bell, and daughter-in-law Derenda Moyer. Bud is also remembered fondly by his six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and his dear friend and companion Wanda Marcussen.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff and residents of StoryPointe Memory Care for all the tender care, love, and laughs they provided to Bud during his time with them.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 2 pm-5 pm on Saturday, October 10th at the Lehman Funeral Home, located at 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. The family will honor his life privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: V.F.W. Post #4090,1324 E. Bridge Street, Portland, MI 48875 in memory of Bud.
