Portland Softball Splits with Red Wings
On Thursday, the Portland High School softball team traveled to St. Johns for a double header with the Red Wings.
Game 1: Portland 12 – St. Johns 3
Sophia Novara pitched the complete game for the Raiders, striking out seven while allowing five hits. The Raiders combined for 11 hits in the game. Novara (triple and double), Aubree Faulkner, Gina Sonday (triple), and Abby Detzler each had two hits, while Madison Lockwood, Paige Pung, and Jayden Townsend each had one hit.
Game 2: St. Johns 11 – Portland 4
In the second game Brooke Seal would pitch two and 2/3 while Townsend would pitch the final three and 1/3. They combined for five strikeouts. Townsend (2 doubles) and Novara each went two for three at the plate in this game. Lockwood (double), Pung, Seal, and Sonday would each have one hit.
The Raiders travel to Saginaw Swan Valley on Saturday. Next week they play at Charlotte on Tuesday, home against Ionia on Thursday, and at Manistee on Saturday.
