Wezensky and Moore qualify for Cross Country States

Avery Wezensky and Owen Moore have made a significant mark this season by qualifying for the MHSAA Division 2 Finals at Michigan International Speedway on November 2. Both athletes, previously ranked in the 20s, excelled in a highly competitive region, securing their spots with finishes of 13th and 14th, respectively. Their achievements are especially noteworthy as it’s the first time the programs have had State qualifiers since 2010 for the girls and 2011 for the boys, highlighting the dedication and hard work of their coaches and teammates.
The Boys team had a historic day, finishing 6th out of 15 teams. Owen Moore led the pack with an impressive time of 16:24, achieving a personal record (PR) by 16 seconds. He was followed by Junior Andrew Feldpausch at 17:08 and Freshman Liam DeWitt, who also set a PR by 12 seconds with a time of 17:25. The scoring was rounded out by Freshman Donnie Richmond at 18:08 and Kehyan Page at 19:06, who finished his season with an 18-second PR. Noah Huffine and Tanner McNair also had strong performances.
The Girls team finished 8th out of 15 teams, showcasing their continued growth and competitiveness. Senior Avery Wezensky led the team with a PR of 19:42, cutting 18 seconds off her previous best. She was followed by Sophomore Paige Weber at 20:53, Junior Lauren Spitzley at 21:47, Sophomore Josephine Polasek, who set a 17-second PR at 22:04, and Freshman Karagan Calley at 22:40. Freshman Izzy Fedewa finished at 23:49, while Senior Anna Heath capped her season with a PR of 24:19, improving by 9 seconds.
Both teams have shown remarkable improvement and resilience, setting the stage for a strong showing at the state finals for Avery and Owen.
