The Portland Boys Wrestling team sent six wrestlers to the Individual State Finals, and all six earned All-State honors, including two state champions. This feat has never happened in Raider Wrestling history. The impressive showing highlights the dedication and hard work these wrestlers put in year-round.
Sophomore Grady Lanz (106) made his first appearance at the state finals, finishing with a 3-3 record to secure 6th place. Lanz concluded his sophomore season with an outstanding 47-9 record.
Junior Branlun Simon (120), a two-time state qualifier and last year’s state finalist, went 3-2 at the finals to place 7th. Simon wrapped up his junior campaign with an impressive 53-2 record.
Junior Griffin Opperman (150), also a two-time state qualifier and All-State placer last season, finished 3-2 at the finals to take 7th place, ending the season with a 43-8 record.
Senior Gunnar Williams (215), a three-time state qualifier and All-State placer last year, battled to a 3-2 record at the finals, earning 4th place. Williams concluded his high school career with a strong 40-9 record.
Leading the way for Portland were two individual Division 2 State Champions: Landon Guilford (215) and Brad Meyers (190). Both wrestlers delivered perfect performances at the finals, going 4-0 to capture their titles.
Junior Landon Guilford, a three-time state qualifier, earned his first state championship along with All-State honors. He finished his junior season with an impressive 48-2 record and continued the proud championship legacy of the Guilford family.
Senior Brad Meyers capped off a remarkable career by becoming a three-time state qualifier and earning All-State honors in all three appearances. Meyers finished his senior season undefeated at 54-0, claiming the 190-pound state championship.
Taking six wrestlers to the state finals and bringing home six All-State honors is a testament to the commitment, discipline, and work ethic that defines the Portland wrestling program.
A special thank you goes out to all the fans and families who supported the team throughout this incredible season.
