The St. Patrick Parish Summer Fest will take place on Friday June 20th and Saturday June 21st at Fr. Flohe Field in Portland. Mashon Stahl is part of the core team who are planning the event.
“The Summer Fest has been an important feature of Portland for decades,” said Mashon. “It’s a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and to make new ones.”
The Summer Fest features live entertainment and great food.
“This year we will be hosting the country music band, ‘Mark Blomsteel and the Motor City Drive,’” said Mashon. “The band will perform on stage Saturday night from 8 pm to 11 pm. The lead singer is known in Nashville and his band performs throughout the Midwest.”
Food choices at the festival are inviting.
“This year we are featuring a chicken dinner on Friday night, catered by Taste of Heaven,” said Mashon. “Take out is available. It will cost $15 per person and kids five years of age and younger eat free of charge. On Saturday we are offering ‘Sim Jim’s BarBQ’ with a full menu of delicious specialties. It will be available from 11 am onward. Adult beverages will be served Friday from 4:30 pm onward and all day on Saturday until 11 pm.”
Kids may enjoy the festival by entertaining themselves in the “bounce houses” that will be on the premises and by enjoying Kona Ice. Kona Ice is flavored shaved ice and it is available to adults as well.
Mashon is also encouraging community members to volunteer their time at the festival.
“The Summerfest involves an enormous amount of labor,” she said. “We are looking for volunteers. Anyone who wishes to volunteer may telephone the parish office and sign-up.”
Finally, on Sunday, there will be a farewell reception for Fr. Mike Alber at 11 am in the entertainment tent. This is an opportunity to say good-bye to Fr. Mike, who will be moving to St. Michael Parish of Remus, Michigan.
“We encourage the entire community to come on out and socialize with each other at the festival and to say good-bye to Fr. Mike,” said Mashon. “The festival is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy great food and to enjoy the fantastic entertainment options that are available as well as to meet new people.”
Those who have questions about the Summer Fest may call the parish office at (517) 647-6505.
