Game 2: St. Patrick 12, Fulton 11
Brady Leonard pitched three and a third inning while striking out seven. Scheurer pitched three and two thirds striking out three and picking up the win.
Charlie Thelen had two hits with three RBIs and TJ Chamberlain had two hits and two RBIs. Logan Howe, Brayden Simon (double) and Nathan Fears each had one hit.
After the district competition, Shamrock coach Bryan Scheurer told the Beacon, “District Saturday started off with great weather, great game. Brayden Simon threw an absolute gem against a very good Fowler team. We executed on offense very well as a team. In game two against Fulton, started out much the same way, executed on offense and Brady Leonard was dialed in on the mound and really rolling. Into the fourth inning, what started as a light and steady mist turned into a very heavy and steady rain. Started slipping with his plant foot and his push foot. Tried to come out and modify the mound. Talked to the umpires and they said we really want to push through, and so we tried but it turned into wet, slimy, slick baseballs… off speed became pretty much impossible to throw and grip, and fastballs became aimed with questionable footing. It turned into an eight-run inning and an eight-run lead turned into nine to eight deficit. We kind of just had to gut it out from there. Credit to Fulton, very good team and they handled those conditions better than we did. We were fortunate to get out of there alive and we are happy to still be playing and hope to improve and capitalize next week with another opportunity.”
The Shamrocks are now 29-1 on the season and will return to Fulton on Thursday, June 5th, to face Dansville in the regional semifinal. The Aggies of Dansville defeated Lansing Christian 10-0 in their district semifinals, and defeated Potterville 10-1 in their district finals.
