Shamrocks lose to Breckenridge
The Breckenridge Huskies travelled to Portland to take on the undefeated Shamrocks on Friday, September 16th. The Huskies were just a little bit much for the Shamrocks, and Portland St. Patrick lost its first regular season game in 4 seasons, by a score of 44-20.
In the first quarter, it was a bit of a battle back and forth, with the Shamrocks missing a few big passing plays that would've scored. The Huskies opened up with a passing touchdown, and the Shamrocks answered with a 63 yard passing touchdown from Brayden Simon to Payton Russman. The Huskies finished out the quarter driving down the field and making the score 14-6 after one quarter of play.
The second quarter saw the Breckenridge Huskies seem to score at will, putting in three scores and holding the Shamrocks to none. This left the score 36-6 at halftime.
The Shamrocks made some defensive adjustments at halftime, and held the Huskies scoreless in the third quarter, but were also held scoreless.
In the fourth quarter, the Shamrocks woke up a bit offensively, and outscored the Huskies two touchdowns to one, on a pair of rushing touchdowns from Lucas Simon. This left the final score 44-20.
Offensive leaders for the Shamrocks were Brayden Simon who went 6 for 17 for 94 yards and a touchdown, Lucas Simon who carried the ball 11 times for 77 yards and two touchdowns and 2 receptions for 10 yards, and Payton Russman who rushed 8 times for 16 yards and had 2 receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown.
Defensive leaders for the Shamrocks were Payton Russman who had 12 tackles 1 sack and 3 tackles for loss (TFL), Landon Simpson who had 9 tackles, and Devin Cook who had 8 tackles 2 sacks and 3 TFL's.
The Shamrocks host highly ranked and undefeated Merrill on Saturday, September 24th at 7 pm for Homecoming. There will be a halftime recognition of former Shamrock and Raider coach Chris Schrauben on his induction into the Michigan High School Coaches hall of fame, and a recognition of the past Championship teams.
