Shamrocks head back to State Championship
On Saturday, January 9th, the Shamrocks of Portland St. Patrick hosted the Warriors of Kinde North Huron. The field was frozen solid, and the Shamrocks had to fight off injuries the entire game, but they outlasted the Warriors winning 34-12.
In the first quarter, the Shamrocks dominated, led by Jacobe Hayes Dunning. Derec Fedewa got the Shamrocks on the board with a 24 yard toucdhown run. Jacobe followed that up with an 8 yard touchdown, and a 50 yard touchdown reception from quarterback Connor Cross. The Shamrock defense held the Warriors to no first downs in the first quarter, and St. Patrick led 22-0 after one quarter.
In the second quarter, the Shamrocks scored early on a run by Jacobe Hayes Dunning, this time from 14 yards out. The Warriors were able to score on a 4th and long, and the score was 28-6 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Shamrocks were playing simple football, and ate up most of the clock on one long drive, with Derec Fedewa being the workhorse and scoring from 9 yards out. This left the score 34-6 after three quarters of play.
The fourth quarter saw a single score from Kinde, with the Shamrocks receiving the ball on the Kinde 1 yard line, they took a knee on 4 downs to finish the game on a score of 34-12.
Offensive leaders were Derec Fedewa who carried the ball 18 times for 104 yards and 2 touchdowns, Jacobe Hayes Dunning carried the ball 16 times for 81 yards and 2 touchdowns and 1 reception for 50 yards and a touchdown. Connor Cross was 2 for 5 for 66 yards and 1 touchdown, and carried the ball 12 times for 51 yards.
Defensive leaders for the Shamrocks were Braxton Teachworth who had 15 tackles and 1 tackle for loss (TFL). Shane Cook had 6 tackles, and Brian Kwiecinski had 7 tackles.
The Shamrocks will travel to Brighton to the Legacy Center for an indoor matchup with the Powers North Central Jets. The Jets are one of the better programs in 8 man football history, and have dominated their opponents this season. The game is at 2pm. Fox Sports Detroit will be carrying the livestream.
