Shamrocks defeat Breckenridge
On Friday, September 27th, the Portland St. Patrick Shamrocks travelled to Breckenridge to battle the Huskies. Despite being 0-4, the Huskies had played 4 quality opponents and were known to be a solid team. The Shamrocks were coming into the game with a 4-0 record and ranked # 1. Despite a slow start, St. Patrick took care of business, winning the game 35-7.
In the first quarter, the Shamrocks put together a working mans drive, and chunked out a score, on a 2 yard Brady Leonard rushing touchdown. The Shamrocks smothered the Huskies, and the score was 7-0 after one quarter.
In the second quarter, the Shamrocks opened the offense wide open, as Brady Leonard scored on runs of 47 and 17 yards, and Brayden Simon pounded in a 5 yard blast. The half was capped when Brayden Simon forced a fumble and Charlie Thelen scooped it up and took it 22 yards for a score. Brody Beckhold went 5 for 5 on extra points, and the score was 35-0 at halftime.
In the second half, the Shamrock sophomores, led by a couple of upper classmen, came in and brought the game home, holding the Huskies to only 7 points.
Offensively, the Shamrocks were led by Brady Leonard, who carried the ball 8 times for 130 yards and 3 touchdowns , and Brayden Simon who carried the ball 8 times for 66 yards and 1 touchdown.
Defensively, were led by Charlie Thelen who had 11 tackles 2 sacks and 4 tackles for loss (TFL). Brayden Simon also had 6 tackles 1 sack and 2 TFL.
St. Patrick celebrates homecoming next Saturday, October 5th with a game against Vestaburg at 7 pm.
