Shamrocks blot out the Comets

The Portland St. Patrick Shamrocks hosted the Coleman Comets for Homecoming on Saturday, September 27th. The festivities did nothing to deter the Shamrocks from competing at a high level, and they stunned the Comets, winning the game 56-0.

 

In the first quarter, Brady Leonard broke loose on the first play from scrimmage, thundering for a 73-yard touchdown run, followed by a Brody Beckhold kick. Brady again broke loose on the next series, rushing for a 29-yard touchdown, and Brody Beckhold made the point after again. Jerryd Scheurer put one in from the one-yard line, before Brady Leonard put in the final score of the quarter, running it in from 15 yards. Aiden Mosser caught a pass in the 2-point conversion to leave the score 28-0 after one quarter of play.

 

The second quarter saw Hudson King with a pair of touchdowns, the first one on a 3-yard pass from Jerryd Scheurer, and the second on a 15-yard run. Brody Beckhold made both extra points to leave the score 42-0 at halftime.

 

The lone score in the third quarter came from Gavin Groothuis on a 10-yard pass from Jerryd Scheurer, followed by a successful Brody Beckhold extra point. This left the score 49-0 after three quarters.

 

Kaedan Brown punched his ticket in the fourth quarter, putting it in from 3 yards out, and Brody again kicked it between the uprights making the final score 56-0.

 

Offensive leaders for the Shamrocks were myriad, with St. Patrick racking up an impressive 459 total yards. Brady Leonard had 5 carries for 159 yards and 3 touchdowns and 1 reception for 11 yards, Hudson King had 6 carries for 64 yards and 1 touchdown and 2 catches for 27 yards and a touchdown, Charlie Thelen had 3 catches for 53 yards. Jerry Scheurer went 8 for 11 for 127 yards and 2 touchdowns, and carried the ball 4 times for 20 yards and a touchdown.

 

Defensive leaders for an impressive shutout were Augustus Teachworth with 7 tackles, Ben White with 7 tackles and a fumble recovery, Jerryd Scheurer had 3 tackles and 3 interceptions, and Brady Leonard had 2 tackles 1 tackle for loss and 1 interception.

 

The Shamrocks travel to Bellaire for a game on Saturday, October 4th at 1pm.
