Shamrock Softball wins District Title
On Saturday, the St. Patrick Varsity Softball hosted Districts. Fulton took a victory against Ashley earlier in the week, and St. Patrick faced them first. Fowler went on to beat Carson City and that was the Shamrocks second opponent.
Game 1 vs. Fulton: St. Pat’s won 5-1
Carly Scheurer took the mound and led the Shamrocks to victory with 5 strikeouts. Offensively, Mara Schruaben went 2 for 3 and an RBI. Carly Scheurer went 2 for 4 with a double and triple. Emma Honsowitz and Aurora Beckhold both added 2 RBIs.
Game 2 vs. Fowler: St. Pat’s won 4-1
Rylee Scheurer took full control of the game and led the Shamrocks with 7 strikeouts. Lydia Meredith went 2 for 3 with a double, home-run and an RBI! Emma Honsowitz went 2 for 3 and an RBI. Aurora Beckhold also added an RBI.
Today felt absolutely phenomenal and very rewarding! The girls came energized, focused and absolutely never let up. We knew heading in to game 1 that Fulton was on the upswing and playing very well at the end of their regular season, and as we suspected they showed up to play. We hit well, but left lots of runners on base without converting them to runs. We held on to a 4 run lead and that took us to the finals. Game 2 took us to a rival that we split with earlier in the season when Rylee was injured. Their small game is exceptional but we had spent the week preparing for their hitters and their pitching. Our hard work paid off- and we hit what she gave us. Lydia was our team catalyst with her solo home run in the 3rd inning and from there we added two more runs for a 3-0 lead from wild pitches and Aurora’s RBI. Emma Honsowitz hit an RBI later in the game that absolutely added to our energy and momentum. Jamelyn caught an amazing fly ball, Addie held runners and was present in every play. Rylee pitched a FANTASTIC game that made even their best hitters jam up or miss full contact. Our coaching staff literally couldn’t be more proud of every single player on our team. We look forward to facing Beal City next weekend!
