The lady Shamrocks had the privilege to participate in the PHS Jack Anderson Invitational on Saturday, May 10th. The team played three games and were happy to see the Raider Softball team win the invitational championship.

In game one, the Shamrocks played Okemos and fell 1-6. Mattie Honsowitz and Kennedy Drake pitched the game with 5 strikeouts. At the plate Gracelyn Rockey went 2-4 with an RBI, and Lily Sandborn went 2-4.

In game 2, the Shamrocks faced the Raiders and fell 6-10. Mattie Honsowitz, Kennedy Drake, and Macie Leonard pitched and together had 4 strikeouts. Offensively, Gracelyn Rockey went 2-3, had 2 runs, and 1 DBL. Lily Sandborn went 2-4, a run, and an RBI. Macie Leonard and Megan Myers each had two RBIs.

Game 3, the Shamrocks fell to Petoskey 6-14. Mattie Honsowitz, Gracelyn Rockey and Macie Leonard all pitched in game three. Macie did a great job mixing speeds and allowing the defense to play behind her. At the plate, Macie Leonard went 2-3, Mattie Honsowitz and Maria Austen each had an RBI.

The St. Patrick coaches told the Beacon, “It was beautiful day for softball and the tournament was a great location for our fans! We love the invitation to play with Portland each year and it really seems to bring the community together.”

“Today, our team struggled to pitch effectively and it caused unearned runs for our opponents. Overall, we were happy with our ability to manufacture runs and we saw some good pitching from Portland and Okemos that help us develop at the plate. Macie Leonard had a fantastic day hitting, pitching and we continue to rely on her as she slides into roles for our team. We also enjoyed hosting our very own “bat girl” - an exiting experience that was purchased by Charlotte Walters’s family at the Shamrock Auction. Charlotte brought a great energy to the dugout and joined us for team breakfast and exchanged lineups before the game. Thank you to the Walters’s family for supporting St Patrick school and athletics!””

The Shamrocks hosted the Aggies Thursday evening. The Shamrocks lost game one 0-2. Mattie Honsowitz pitched an effective and well-located game that kept the Aggies off solid contact. Lily Sandborn and Mattie Honsowitz each had a solid hit for the Shamrocks but were unable to score against the pitching from Graf.

Game two was lost 1-11, and the pitching shared between Kennedy Drake, Macie Leonard and Mattie Honsowitz. Macie Leonard went 1-2, and Mattie Honsowitz went 1-2 with a double and an RBI.

The Shamrock coaches said, “We were pleased with our defense in game one, and very excited to see effective communication, mental focus and execution. Mattie was solid for our team and brought an extra spark that led our team on the field. Our bats were quiet in game one but we continue to work on being consistent at the plate.”
