The Shamrocks dropped two league losses to the veteran Wolfpack.
In the first game, Laingsburg scored 13 runs in the second inning, and they went on to win 15-0. Stiff earned the win for Laingsburg. Kennedy Drake took the loss for St. Patrick.
The lady Shamrocks reset and came back in game two and held a lead through the fifth inning. A triple by Maria Austen drove in the opening runs for the Shamrocks. Gracelyn Rockey and Macie Leonard added two hits each. Skylar Stiff earned the win for Laingsburg. Macie Leonard took the loss for St. Patrick.
The Shamrock coaches said, “Tonight was a tough matchup for our team coming off of spring break and straight into our first contest of the season. We knew that Laingsburg would be tough and will likely finish at the top of our league with their 8 seniors and 5 of those girls have already signed a college softball commitment. Their pitching, defensive execution, and coaching is always top notch so it was a solid gauge of our biggest needs as we start the season. Game one was top to bottom really rough to watch out body language and confidence on the field. After a mental reset, game two was much better and we held the lead through 5 innings which was a bit more what our expectation was coming into the evening. Defensively we made plays and our coaching identified the needs of our team more globally. We are excited to face off against Fulton on Friday.”
