Retired Judge David Hoort plays critical role in case after it was lost in the system for over 20 years
Many Portland area residents will recognize the name David Hoort. Before retiring form the bench, Hoort was a judge of the 8th Circuit Court in Michigan (Ionia and Montcalm counties) where he served from January 1, 1999 until he retired on February 26, 2016.
The retired judge now calls Georgia home, but is still working as an attorney.
Hoort was recently in the news in his new home state as the new attorney for Leslie Singleton. Singleton was convicted of murder as a teenager in 2001. For more than 20 years, the case fell through the cracks of the legal system.
