Red Mill Community Day set for August 28th
Where Good Friends Meet - Saturday August 28th at the 5th Annual RED MILL COMMUNITY DAY 9am-9pm.
It’s that time of the year when the Friends Of The Red Mill group brings the community together for a celebration at The Red Mill Pavilion & Bogue Flats parks.
The Portland Civic Players start off the day welcoming their 3rd Annual 5K Drama Run/Walk at Bogue Flats for a 8am start ($35 pre-registration only Deadline Aug 20) – www.portlandcivicplayers.com). The Red Mill Community Day has grown over the years needing the closure of Water St between Bud Plant Drive and Morse St to hold over 50+ Art, Craft, nonprofits & business vendors for the public to visit from 9am-3pm. The Kids Peddle Tractor Pulls (Ages 3-10 registration 12:30 & pulls @ 1:30pm) will also take place on Water St near Morse St. The Portland Historical Society will host a pop-up Portland Museum inside The Old Red Mill you can visit while enjoying the live music from the “Porch Picker” band. Seasonal favorites may be grabbed from any of the 24 Old Red Mill Farmers Market vendors in and around the Red Mill Pavilion. Scattered around the park grounds will be Ole Time demonstrations of blacksmith, basket weaving, wood carvers and portable saw-mill, and tractors old and new. Check out the beautiful two rivers just a block away from the park by taking a Covered Wagon ride, sponsored by Sparrow. The youth may enjoy pony rides, a visit to the animal petting farm as well as Epic & Methodist Churches hosting kids games and activities in their kids zones. Many local, county and state police, fire and/or ambulance vehicles maybe explored by all. Stop to say Hi to the men, women and MSP K9 unit while you're there. The Portland Blue Sox Vintage Baseball Team will have a game starting at 4pm at Bogue Flats that will be a grand slam. With these activities and the summer heat will make you thirsty and hungry. We have plenty of Food Trucks and Food Vendors to satisfy your cravings any time of the day; breakfast, lunch or dinner.
We round off this wonderful day celebrating summer with a FREE concert, A Jimmy Buffett Party in The Red Mill Pavilion starting at 6pm. So start searching for your favorite tropical shirt or dress, grab family or friends and a lawn chair as you don’t want to miss National touring, tropical rock, award-winning band “Don Middlebrook and the Pearl Divers” sponsored by Bob Luellen, Worldwide Marine Underwriters Insurance. And yes there will be Food & Beverage Trucks available to grab dinner while enjoying the live music.
There is something for everyone to enjoy at the 5th Annual Red Mill Community Day celebration, no matter your age. We can’t wait to see everyone!!
