Raider Softball falls in Regional Finals

On Saturday, the Portland High School softball team traveled to Waverly to play in the MHSAA regional tournament.
The Raiders faced Williamston in the semi final round. The two teams were tied at the end of the seventh and pushed the game into extra innings. In the top of the eight, Williamston picked up one run to gain a 4-3 lead.
In the bottom half of the seventh the Raiders tied the game at 4-4, and would win the game 5-4 on an RBI single by Lilly Thelen.
Bell Spitzley got a complete eight inning win on the mound while holding Williamston to just six hits.
Spitzley went one for two at the plate with a home run and an RBI. Thelen finished two for three with an RBI. Molly Miilu went two for four with an RBI. Bailee Fish, Autumn Reffitt, Claire Lyon, Rylie Miller and Anastasia Seidelman each had one git for Portland.
In the second game of the day, the Raiders faced Coldwater in the Regional Championship. Coldwater would win the game 6-1.
Portland was held to just three hits in the game. Fish, Miilu, and Veda Smith each had one hit.
Spitzley pitched the complete game for Portland.
The Raiders finished their season with a 24-9 record, a share of the CAAC White Championship, and a district championship.
Coldwater advances to face Paw Paw on June 10th at Bailey Park in Battle Creek.
