On the boys side, the day was a program first. We had three boys bowlers make to Matchplay. Alec McGinnis qualified 16th, Eli Dakin qualified 13th and Dre Cross qualified 7th. Dre and Alec lost in the first round and finished tied for 9th.
Eli lost in the semifinals and finished in 3rd place. This was great competition to get the teams ready for the last week of the season plus regionals.
Nate Pierce finished in 19th place. Zack McAllister finished in 26th place and Camden Calkins finished in 43rd place.
On Tuesday, February 11th, the Portland teams traveled to Char Lanes to compete against Olivet.
The girls team moved their record to 13-0 and guaranteed themselves the league title with a 26-4 win over Olivet. Leading the way was Savanah Sutton with games of 201 and 168 for a 369 series. This match was a lot closer than the scoreboard indicates as Savanah had to step up multiple times in the tenth to secure points.
Varsity had a great day on the lanes. They won 23.5 to 6.5. The boys had a 1987 score for the two teams games which is a program record. The match was much closer than the score would suggest. In game 1 Eli Dakin bowled a 258 his highest in high school competition. He had a 452 two game series.
Alec McGinnis was clutch as he got up in the tenth frame and struck out both games to win 1 point and to tie the other point, he had a 439 two game series.
In game 2 Zack McAllister got up needing to strike out to secure the victory and he threw 3 of his best shots of the day. He finished with a 422 two game series. The victory today secure the league title outright.
