Raider baseball 2-2 after facing Holt and Lansing Sexton

The Portland High School baseball team opened their 2026 campaign on Wednesday, March 25th, when the Holt Rams came to visit.
Game 1: Holt 2, Portland 1
In the first game of the season for both teams, there was not much offense to be found anywhere. The two teams combined for just seven hits in the game which you may want to call a pitcher’s duel.
Max Sandborn and Hudson Martin each got one hit for the Raiders.
Gunnar Williams pitched four innings for the Raiders striking out two. Connor Fox pitches one inning striking out one.
Game 2: Holt 12, Portland 3
Game two on the night saw several more hits, but unfortunately the majority were by Holt. The Rams tallied 14 hits opposed to five by the Raiders.
Max Sandborn led the Portland offense going two for two. Hudson Martin, Carson Simon, and Carson Pung each added one hit for Portland.
The Raiders had three pitchers see action in the game. Fox pitched the first two innings striking out two. Sandborn pitched the next two innings striking out three. Martin pitched the final inning striking out one.
Portland traveled to Lansing Sexton on Tuesday, April 14th for their first CAAC White contests of the season.
Game 1: Portland 25, Sexton 0
In a three inning run limit game, the Raiders tallied 25 runs on 20 hits.
25 runs in the game breaks the program’s prior record of 23 runs in a game which was set against Sexton in 2023. 20 hits in the game breaks the program’s record of 19 hits in a game which was set against St. Johns back in 2005.
Simon had three hits for Portland. Williams had home run and a triple in the game. Deacon Townsend, Trevor Smith, Mason Vallier, Pung, Sandborn, and Gavin Werner each had two hist in the game.
Sandborn got the win on the mound striking out five over two innings. Fox struck out two in the final inning of the game.
Game 2: Portland 20, Sexton 0
In another three inning run limit game, Portland outhit Sexton 17-0.
Williams had four hits including a triple and five RBIs in the game. Vallier, Pung, and Simon each added two hits.
