Portland’s girls varsity wrestling team delivered a gritty, hard‑charging performance at the Holt Girls Duals tournament over the weekend, stacking three dual victories and finishing fourth overall in a deep, competitive field.
The Raiders opened the day with a 36–27 win over Eaton Rapids, fueled by momentum‑shifting pins from Georgia Stahl, Alliona Teachworth, and Madison Pohl. Portland kept rolling in Round 2, edging the number one ranked Romeo 42–36 behind a flurry of early points and first‑period falls from Lillian Teachworth, Kyla Fuller, and Alliona Teachworth, who continued her dominant run through the middle weights.
Portland’s most commanding effort came in a 48–12 rout of Adrian. The Raiders controlled the pace from the opening whistle, with Lillian Teachworth sticking her opponent in just 35 seconds and Jonnie Miller adding another lightning‑quick fall at 155. Portland piled up points across the lineup, sealing its third straight victory.
The championship bracket brought a tough matchup with powerhouse Constantine, where Portland fell 43–23 despite several standout performances. Stahl and Adler opened the dual with back‑to‑back pins, and Alliona Teachworth delivered one of the day’s highlight wins with a 16‑1 technical fall at 130. Portland battled through tight matches, including a one‑point decision at 170, but Constantine’s depth proved decisive.
In the third‑place dual, Portland came up just short in a 41–34 loss to Gladwin. The Raiders got big wins from Adler, Alliona Teachworth, Lillian Teachworth, Isabelle Fedewa, and Stahl, but a string of forfeits and upper‑weight falls swung the dual in Gladwin’s favor.
With three dual wins and a fourth‑place finish, the Raiders showcased toughness, depth, and continued growth as the season heads into its final stretch. This week the Raiders will be at home Wednesday January 21st at 5:30, and at Ovid-Elsie Friday at 4:00.
