The Portland Boys Bowling team competed in the MHSAA Team Tournament to cap off their season.
The boys battled nerves, as it was the first State Finals appearance for every member of the team. Despite the pressure, they competed hard and finished in 14th place overall. The team was led by Tanner Brownell and Wyatt Spear, who each rolled a strong 371 two-game series.
The following day was the MHSAA Singles Tournament.
Our lone Girl’s qualifier Savanah Sutton delivered an outstanding performance. She bowled a six-game total of 1067, finishing 13th in qualifying to earn a spot in match play. In her first match, Savanah posted games of 178 and 180 to secure the victory. In the second round, she dropped the opening game but battled back in the second, fighting to overcome the early deficit. Unfortunately, a stubborn 7-pin refused to fall late in the match. Savanah finished in the top eight overall, earning a State Finals medal for her efforts.
For the boys we had three bowlers represent Portland. Zach Edlund placed 55th, while Camden Calkins finished 35th. Wyatt Spear bowled a six-game total of 1210 to qualify 16th—the final spot in match play. He competed hard but fell by just 11 pins in the opening round, finishing in a tie for 9th place.
