PHS Bowling Season off to Strong Start
On Sunday, the Portland Bowling teams competed in their first event of the season. In the Kickoff the Season Baker Eliminator Invitational Bowling Tournament at Royal Scot the Girls Varisty team finished 12th out of 18 teams with a 123 average. The Boys Varsity Team finished 16th out of 22 teams with a 143 average. Both teams struggled with being nervous but finished strong down the stretch.
On Tuesday, the teams got league play underway with a match against Lansing United at Sparetime lanes. The Boys Varsity put up a strong showing as they won 24 to 6. Alex McGinnis led the way with a 2 game series of 352. The Boys JV also dominated their match winning 29 to 1. Devin Spitzley had the high game of the day with a 194.
The Girls Varsity began its defense of the league title with a 28 to 2 victory. Lily Keller led the team with a 2 game series of 233.
The bowlers travel back to Sparetime on Friday this week for a matchup with East Lansing and Monday they travel to Royal Scot to take on Dewitt.
