PHS Bowlers pick up two wins over Ionia

On Friday, the PHS boys and girls bowling teams hosted Ionia at the Wagon Wheel.


Girls coach Joe Whitford said, “In this rival match it definitely was exciting to watch all teams as every pin counted.”


Boys Coach Dan Graef was very pleased on how well the boys handled the pressure.


The Portland Boys won their match 19-11.


Portland Boys Top Scores:

Cooper Hoskins 192

Zac McAllister 187


Ionia Boys Top Scores:

Brett Peterson 220 & 181


On the girls side, Whitford said they “Started out real slow by losing the 1st game, but rebounded and won the 2nd game. Sophomore Lily Keller got the team pumped up with a nice 192 game.”


Whitford added, “Going into the baker game Portland Girls needed to win one baker game to win the match. Portland lost the 1st baker game by 4 pins! In the 2nd baker game it came down to the 10th frame which senior and anchor bowler Jessie Whitford needed a mark to win the match.”


Portland’s girls came out on top with the win, 19-11.

Lily Keller 192

Jessie Whitford 174


The Portland girls team remain undefeated at 7-0. The boys squad is now 2-5.


Portland’s next match will be at Royal Scot in Lansing against Dewitt on Monday.
