PHS announces Athlete of the Month for March, April and May

The PFCU athlete of the month award at Portland High School goes to the student who is just that each and every month of the school year, – that is, assuming he or she is in good academic and behavioral standing, this award goes to the individual each month who was consistently that month’s best athlete and led their team to success.
Monthly winners receive a plaque at awards night and are entered into a drawing for a $500 scholarship from PFCU.
March: Summer Stopczynski
Stopczynski recently finished her senior season for the basketball program and had a very successful career. She has committed to play basketball at Lansing Community College next year.
Portland girls basketball coach Jason Haid said of Stopczynski, “Summer was instrumental in the Raiders tournament run to the regional championship. She had 10 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists in the regional game against Alma and averaged 9 points and 6 rebounds and 2 assists throughout the tournament.”
April: Nolan Zbytowski
Zbytowski had a stelar senior season for the Raider football team and is looking to repeat as a state champion with PHS track this spring. He will be playing football at Davenport University next year.
May: Lauren Spitzley
Spitzley is also a senior. She competed on the Raider Cross Country team last fall and is a standout on the soccer team.
