Obituary for Susan S. Smith

Susan S. Smith, age 78, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025. She retired after over forty years in the insurance industry. Susan was a member of the VFW Post 4090 Auxiliary where she bartended part-time for over ten years after retirement. Susan enjoyed interacting with people, spending time at the lake, camping, traveling, and time with family and friends.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Shirley Brown; her husband of 36 years, Pete Smith; her twin sister, Sylvia (Dale) Randall; and her brothers, Keith (Lori) Brown and Richard Brown, in-laws; Frank and Gertie Smith, Alvin Smith, Donnie Smith, Ronnie Smith, MaryAnn Schneider, Bobby Smith, and Ruthie Smith. She is survived by her two daughters: Sherrell (Jeff) Costello of Holland and Jami (Patrick) Howland of Portland; her significant other, James Harbenski of Portland; and her brother, Michael (Phyllis) Brown of Belize; and her in-laws: Dale Randall, Alice (Bob) Hafner, Stan (Shirley) Smith, Sharon Smith, Karen Smith, Claire Schneider, and Donna Brown. She leaves behind grandchildren: Shauna (Jon) Costello, Dalton (Allison) Howland, Tristin (Katelyn) Howland, KaCee (John) Vargo, and Zachary Costello; as well as great-grandchildren: Peter, William, Athena, Braelyn, Elise, Olivia, Arya, Lincoln, Jack, and Charlie, along with many nieces and nephews with special appreciation of support to Sonya (Jim) Groesser and Heather (Pete) Hanson.
