Obituary for Steven Lee Spitzley
Steven Lee Spitzley, age 80, of Portland, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2022. He was born on April 10, 1942 the son of Edward and Marcella (Rademacher) Spitzley. Steve was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Westphalia and St. Patrick’s Church in Portland. Steve retired from General Motors after 42 years of service and was a member of the Michigan National Guard for 6 years. He enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers, trips to the casino, Michigan Lottery scratch off tickets, traveling and fishing. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Edward (Eileen) Spitzley, Daniel Spitzley, Larry Spitzley, Marlene (Jerome) Bauer, Mary Lou (Thomas) Weber, Annette Bierstetel; in-laws, Clover Spitzley, Marilyn Freeman, Delores (Walt) Saxton and former wife, Sandra Patrick. Surviving is his wife of 28 years, Georgia Darling (Swanson) Spitzley; children, Kurt (Michell) Spitzley, Kim Keeler, Katrina Hawley, Karen Barker (fiance Mark Smith), Kris (Kendra) Spitzley and stepdaughters, Sheila (Curtis) Flynn, Robin (Scott) Pline and Brenda (Mike) Charles; 17 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; siblings, Kathy (Don) Hengesbach and LeRoy Spitzley; in-laws, Blanche Spitzley, Leon Bierstetel, Viola (Terry) Green, Emma Dobson and Hazel Wortley; many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian will be celebrated by Rev. Mike Alber at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 22, 2022 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, April 21, 2022 at the Lehman Funeral Homes. 210 E. Bridge St., Portland. The rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. Military graveside honors will be provided by the V.F.W. Post #4090. Memorial contributions may be made to the Portland Senior Center (PSAG) or Parkinson’s Foundation in memory of Steve Spitzley. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes.
