Obituary for Rose Mary Manning

Rose Mary Manning passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 27, 2024, aged 82. Mass of Christian burial is November 4, 2024, 12:05 PM at St. Gregory Catholic Church, Sitka. A luncheon reception will follow in the Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Sitka Historical Society or St. Gregory Catholic Church, Sitka. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future time in Portland, Michigan.

In her own words:

“Born backwards (breach) at home on a Michigan farm, Easter 1942.

Fourth of six sisters.

Pat sister #3 and Katie sister # 5 are in heaven now.

Ed and Lorena taught us early that we were poor Irish, Catholic, union-loving Democrats.

Twelve years St. Patrick School. Amen.

Elvis and Rock and Roll.

Babysitting 25 cents/hour. Soda jerk 55 cent/hour.

Lansing Community College, University of Michigan, Washtenaw Community College, Eastern Michigan University, University of Alaska, Southeast.

Thirty-nine great years in the pharmaceutical industry.

Michigan Dept. of Health Vaccines, American Red Cross Lab, U of M Arthritis Research Lab, Parke-Davis, Warner-Lambert, Esperian Therapeutics

Married a cop at 19 he lost me at 53. 

Some wonderful travel and dancing partners. Mac, Harry, Ted and Fred.

North to Sitka, Alaska.

Volunteered at Sheldon Jackson College

Worked at the Sitka Airport gift shop and met my fisherman, logger man Kurt.

56 years of travel – 47 states.

Trains, planes, automobiles, VW Camper, Dog sled, Ship, Canoe, Salmon Troller

 and a hot air balloon.

10 cruises – Amazon, Nile, Hawaii, Caribbean, 

Canada, Mexico, Europe, S. America, Africa, Australia

Falls – Niagara, Tahquamenon, Victoria, and Snoqualmie

May the road never end!”
