Obituary for Ronald Vincent Shinaver

Ronald Vincent Shinaver, Sr., of Portland, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026 at the age of 83. Ron was a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Portland. He dedicated 40 years of his career as a Union Official at General Motors, taking great pride in the work he did and the people he represented. On August 22, 1964, Ron married the love of his life, Carol Goodman. Together they shared 61 wonderful years of marriage. Ron enjoyed traveling and the great outdoors, he especially liked traveling across the United States in his motorhome, embracing the freedom of the open road. Camping, fishing, and boating were also among his favorite hobbies. Above all, Ron loved his family, he had a special bond with his only grandson, Vincent, which brought him so much joy. Ron will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

 

Preceding Ron in death are his parents, Gerald Shinaver, Alice Jarvis Shinaver, and Reva Shinaver Bell; father and mother-in-law, George and Dorothy Goodman; son, Ronald Vincent Shinaver, Jr.; siblings, Terry Shinaver, Rosemary Shinaver, Jayne Simmons, Bill Shinaver, Tom Shinaver, and Dan Shinaver; in-laws, Bill Clark, Don Pohl, Norman Goodman, Jerry (Jane) Goodman, Bill Curns, and Jerry Fernholz. Surviving Ron are his beloved wife, Carol Shinaver; daughter, Danna Shinaver; grandson, Vincent (fiancée, Kaitlyn) Shinaver; siblings, Jerry Shinaver, Jim (Nancy) Shinaver, Judy Clark, Steve (Lisa) Shinaver, Wendy Pohl, Mary (Tom) Dryzga, Pauline Holton, Kathy Mikesell, and Joy (Victor) Cardenas; in-laws, Marilyn Shinaver, Jean Shinaver, Ken Simmons, Sherry Shinaver, Joyce Curns, Gene (Letha) Goodman, Ron (Jane) Goodman, and Gladys Fernholz; and many nieces and nephews.

 

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Logan Weber at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 17, 2026 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland. Rite of Committal will follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland.
