Obituary for Kendall B. Sandborn


Kendall B. Sandborn, age 86, of Portland, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2022. He was born on July 11, 1935 in Orange Township to Riley and Anis (Benschoter) Sandborn. Kendall was a lifelong farmer and he enjoyed raising sheep. He liked auto racing and ice cream, but his favorite thing to do was spend time with his family. Kendall was the sweetest man; he always had a smile on his face and a joke to tell. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.


Preceding Kendall in death are his parents; daughter, Carol Schrauben; son-in-law, Phil May; siblings, Howard (Mary) Sandborn, Maxine (Paul) Volk, June (Robert) Higbee, Riley (Maxine) Sandborn, Louis (Mary) Sandborn, Joyce (Donald) Lyon, and Janet (Gerald) Gilbert. Surviving are his beloved wife of 63 years, Barbara (Coon) Sandborn; children, Dave Schrauben, Chris (Kaye) Sandborn, Denise (Mike) Ouendag, Joel (Robyn) Sandborn, Scott Sandborn, and Heidi May; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Richard (Marcia) Sandborn, Bonnie (Marvin) Jameson, Gary Sandborn, Judy McCrumb, and Betty Russell.


The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Darell Kempf at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 28, 2022 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland. The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. on Thursday at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mother Teresa House, 308 N. Walnut Street, Lansing, MI 48933 in memory of Kendall. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
