Josephine Clara (Theis) Fox was born on March 9, 1932, to Joseph and Catherine (Schmitt) Theis in Westphalia, and died at age 93 in Portland on October 23, 2025.
Josephine married James O. Fox on June 17, 1957. She was a devoted Catholic, a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, and prayed the rosary daily. In later years when she wasn’t able to walk outside, she would pace her home, praying her rosary.
She was well-known for her oatmeal cookies, quilting, and volunteering at many parish events. She loved a good game of cards and was a frequent Bingo player. She lived a simple, prayerful life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James, in 2008, son Richard in 1993, siblings Henry Theis, Ed Theis, Mary Smith, Catherine Haeck. Survived by her son, Robert “Bob” (Sharon), granddaughters Michelle (Jordan) Rademacher, and Emilee (Jerrod) Harrison, and great-grandson Brayden Harrison. Also surviving are sisters Rose Kolp and Christine Smith.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 28, 2025, by Rev. Logan Weber at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Portland. Rite of Committal will follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family Monday, October 27, 2025, from 3:00-7:00 p.m., with a Rosary prayed at 2:30 p.m. at Lehman Funeral Home, 210 W. Bridge St., Portland. Visitation will also take place at St. Patrick Church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church in Portland, Michigan (140 Church St.).
