Obituary for John Leon Moyer




John Leon Moyer, of Portland, peacefully went to be with the Lord on January 16, 2024, at the age of 95. He was born in Eagle, Michigan, on January 12, 1929, to Russell and Emma (Haueter) Moyer.


John was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. A proud veteran, John served his country with honor during the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Army 68th AAA Gun Battalion Division from 1951 to 1954. John also served in the U.S. Navy. He was a proud veteran and a decorated soldier. Known for his dedication to the nation and exemplified by his deep sense of duty and patriotism. 


Throughout his life, John was a hardworking and dedicated professional. He received an Associate Degree in Business Management and as the Owner and Operator of Moyer Bros Concrete Contractors, he contributed significantly to the community through his work. His legacy in the construction industry stands as a testament to his skill, diligence, and passion for his craft.


Beyond his professional accomplishments, John found joy and fulfillment in his personal life. He was blessed with a 69-year marriage to the love of his life, his sweet "Honey Bee," Margy (Peake) Moyer. Their enduring love and partnership were a source of inspiration to all who knew them, creating a foundation of love, support, and shared memories.


John is preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Emma Moyer; wife, Margy Moyer; several brothers and sisters; and several Peake in-laws. He is survived by his children: Michael (Mary Jo) Moyer, David (Kathy) Moyer, Steve (Ok-Sook Park) Moyer, and Anne (Mark) Wojtkowski. John is also remembered fondly by his six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brother, Barry “Bud” Moyer; sister-in-law, Eleanor Peake, step-niece, Lindsey Kelleher, and many nieces and nephews.


The Funeral Service to honor John's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at the Lehman Funeral Home, located at 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. Following the service, the Rite of Committal will take place at North Eagle Cemetery. Military graveside honors will provided by the V.F.W. Post #4090. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 22, 2024 at the funeral home. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the V.F.W. Post #4090 or to the American Legion, 1324 E. Bridge Street, Portland, MI 48875 in memory of John. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
