Obituary for Jerry R Hyland

Please be advised on 1-9-25 ,Jerry R Hyland, age 88 passed away. He is survived by his wonderful wife Joanne after almost 70 years of marriage. He leaves four daughters and one son; Denise Ross of Mesa, Arizona, Deborah Bonkoski of Traverse City, Diane Rollnick of Scottsdale, Arizona, Dawn Pater of Traverse City and Gerald R Hyland Jr.. He leaves 9 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren.
Preceding Jerry in death were his parents, Estin & Reva Hyland, brothers Robert and Richard and sisters Phyllis Rectenwald, Lois Doxsie and Betty Goodman.
Jerry started as a Structural Steel worker for 7 years and with the Portland Police Department before joining the State Police in April of 1962. Stationed in Flint, Wakefield, Paw Paw, Benton Harbor, Flat Rock and to Post Commander in Mt. Pleasant in 1980 and retired from Operations Special Unit in 1989. After 27 years, Jerry retired and started the business of Trace Investigations in Mt. Pleasant for 15 years. There, he specialized in Adoption searches and was a Confidential Intermediary for Probate Court.
Jerry graduated from Portland High school in 1955. Graduated from the Delehanty Institute of Applied Science; Associate Degree in Law from Lake Michigan Collage, Attended the FBI Academy in 1982. After his second retirement in 2003, he and his wife Joanne relocated to Mesquite, Nevada for warm weather, playing golf and enjoying the casinos. Jerry became active in his Home Owners Association as Vice President and President. He then was elected to the Master Home Owners Association consisting of 1735 homes where he served as Vice President. In 2020, Jerry & Joanne moved to Traverse City, Michigan where two daughters live.
