Obituary for Jane F. (Feldpausch) Gross

Jane Frances Gross, of Portland, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on June 1, 2024 at the age of 89. She was born to Anthony and Laura (Trierweiler) Feldpausch in Westphalia on July 28, 1934. Jane was a faithful member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Portland and along with her late husband, Stanley, they were among the first graduating class of St. Patrick High School in 1953. Jane led a vibrant and fulfilling life, filled with joy, laughter, and love. She found solace and creativity in the art of quilting, her nimble fingers weaving stories into every stitch. Jane's adventurous spirit led her to the casino, where she embraced the thrill of chance. She loved to sing and dance with her family on any occasion, a favorite pastime that her family will cherish forever. She loved to travel. She would go with anyone that offered a trip. Some destinations included Alaska, Germany (once with her grandson), San Diego, San Francisco and of course, Vegas where she zip lined well into her 80’s. She loved to go visit her granddaughter in South Carolina and instigated numerous family trips to water parks and Chicago. Golf was not just a game to Jane; it was a passion that she pursued with determination and skill; her proudest moment was when she hit a hole in one. Above all else, her family was the most important thing to her, she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Preceding Jane in death are her parents; husband of 51 years, Stanley Gross; son, John Gross; daughter, Carol (Howard) Graft; sons-in-law, Bruce Cook, Ryan Sandborn, and Gary Graft; siblings, Robert (Mary) Feldpausch, Evelyn (Loren) Hazen, Leon Feldpausch, Veronica (Darrel) Pennington, Monica (Aurthur) Bartlett, and Richard (Loretta) Feldpausch. Surviving Jane are her children, Sheila Cook of Portland, Donalyn (Terry) Lawless of Crystal, Douglas (Raelynn) Gross of Mason, and Sue Graft of Portland; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; siblings, Lawrence (Karen) Feldpausch, Tony (Martha) Feldpausch, and Carolee (Albert) Smith; Gross in-laws, Marie Schrauben, Don (Dee) Gross, Rita (Steve) Snitgen, Alice Zimmerman, Gary (Carolle) Gross, and Mary (Rocky) Beckhold.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Fairview AFC and Sparrow Hospice Services for the exceptional care they took of Jane.

A Celebration of Life honoring Jane will take place on July 28, 2024, what would have been her 90th birthday and will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Grand Ledge Opera House (upstairs hall) with a light luncheon to follow. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made to the Stanley and Jane Gross Scholarship Fund in honor of Jane. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
