James Franklin Cassel passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on December 30, 2021. He was born February 19, 1951, in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Joseph A. and Audrey O. (Brindley) Cassel. He graduated from Portland High School in 1969 and married the love of his life, Patricia in 1973 and remained in the Portland area to raise their family.

Jim loved farming and dedicated his life to his passion by working 51 years at Williams Farm Machinery in Charlotte, MI helping multiple generations of farmers throughout the state improve their operations. He took great pride in farming the land that his family had farmed before him and that the legacy will be continued for future generations. In addition to farming, Jim enjoyed most anything with wheels and a motor, and was often found tinkering in his shop on an old tractor or car.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Patricia A. Cassel of Portland, sons James (Kelly) Cassel and Dennis (Kristina) Cassel of Portland, grandchildren, Brendan Cassel, Emily Cassel, Kennedy Cassel, Ethan Cassel, Kayla Shaw, Kara Shaw, Amy Shaw, sisters, Inez (Robert) Leik, Jackie (Craig) Mulholland, Jean (Kelly) Murdock, brothers, David (Jody) Cassel, George (Molly) Cassel, brothers and sisters-in-law, Kay (Kenneth) Hopkins, Mike (Julie) Hopkins, Steve (Theresa) Hopkins, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law, June M. Hopkins, father-in-law, Kenneth L. Hopkins, sister, JoAnn VanOrman, brother-in-laws, Gary Erdman and Kenneth Hopkins, granddaughter, Alyssa A. Cassel.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held from 12pm – 4pm at Williams Farm Machinery in Charlotte, MI on January 16, 2022 with a catered meal for guest to enjoy some of Jim's favorite cuisine provided by Swedes of Mulliken.
