Obituary for Gary L. May

Gary Lenn May, of Eagle, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 10, 2024 at the age of 73. He was born in Dyess, Arkansas on May 6, 1951 to Marvin and Betty (Taylor) May.

Gary's life was a beautiful testament to his vibrant spirit and his deep love for family and adventure. He treasured trips back to Arkansas, visiting his boyhood roots. A true historian at heart, Gary's fascination with the past led him to explore various aspects of history, with a particular fondness for the legendary Elvis Presley. Gary reveled in the exhilaration of riding motorcycles, the camaraderie of playing softball, and the friendly competition of bowling. Yet, amidst his active pursuits, he found enjoyment in the simple pleasures of life – such as attending movies at the theater with a bucket of popcorn in hand. Gary reveled in the great outdoors, especially enjoying campfires under the starlit sky. Above all else, Gary's life was illuminated by the love he shared for God, his family, and his friends. Gary will be fondly remembered by those who had the privilege of working with him as the C.E.O. of Portland Federal Credit Union where he made many lasting friendships and connections. His warmth, sense of humor, and unwavering kindness touched the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Preceding Gary in death are his parents, Marvin and Betty May and his sons-in-law, Kevin Buskirk and Martin Hanley. Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Virginia (LeVeque) May; children, Candace Hanley, Gary (Jaime) May, Jr., and Melissa (Todd) Holliday; grandchildren, Allison, Shana, Austin, Whitney, Jocelynn, Taylor, Amiah, Memphis, Raelynn, Hanna, and Phoenix; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Kenadie, Cove, Luka, Kevin, and Dayton; siblings, Cindy (Tom) Arntz and Lori (Darrin) Ayers; mother-in-law, Catherine LeVeque; many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and he was a mentor for many.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 from 6-8 p.m. at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. The Funeral Service for Gary will be officiated by Pastor Steve Burkhart at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, June 13, 2024 at the funeral chapel. A luncheon will follow the service at the Wagon Wheel American Grill, Portland. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
