Obituary for Elaine G. (Hartwick) Gilmore


On the afternoon of March 9, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones, Elaine passed away peacefully in her home. Elaine was born on December 4, 1955 to Melvin and Jeanette Hartwick. She was one of 7 children in the Hartwick family. Elaine loved her family and her brothers and sisters were very special to her.


Elaine is preceded in death by both of her parents; her mother and father-in-law; brothers-in-law, Stan, Bob, and Bill; son-in-law, Casey; nephew, Lane; infant granddaughter, Kaitlin Elaine; and some of her close friends.


Surviving Elaine in life is her husband, Larry, who has unconditionally loved and devoted himself to caring for her and being her #1 supporter. They were married in Portland, Michigan on August 1, 1981 with a couple of their best friends by their side. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary last year. Every year they enjoyed spending their anniversary at a cabin overlooking Houghton Lake.


Elaine is also survived by her children that she loved so very much, Troy (Chantelle) Hartwick, Stacy Gloden, Lori (Brady) Hall, Beth (Rick) Powers, and Bonnie Smith; her grandchildren- the light of her life and her everything, Natalie (Forrest) Wood, Tracy, Ray, Ajay, and Collin Huff, Trevor Gloden, Ian, Jesse, and Cameron Schneider, Lotus and Xavier Burhans, Elizabeth Powers, Jason (Dominique), Sheri, Chase, and Tori Arrell. Elaine had 8 great-grandbabies with a new one on the way. She is also survived by all of her brothers and sisters, Noble (Rose) Hartwick, Lana (Faro) Gervasi, Doris Russell, Jerry Murphy, Lane (Bonnie) Hartwick, and Pete (Lisa) Hartwick and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and some amazing friends and neighbors.


Elaine loved to drive her golf cart with her family during the summer and fall months. She loved to tend to her flower gardens until there was not a weed in sight. She also loved to feed crackers to her goat, Ellie Mae.


Elaine’s wishes were to have a Celebration of Life which will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m., Sunday, March 27, 2022 at the Grand River Conservation Club, 7345 Lyons Road, Portland, MI 48875. Condolences may be sent to the family at 9088 Marsalle Road, Portland, MI 48875. Memorial contributions received by the family will be donated to the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America in honor of Elaine’s 40 year battle with MS (www.mymsaa.org).
