Obituary for Doris Louise (Cross) Shattuck
Doris Louise Shattuck, of Portland, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on May 24, 2024 at the age of 99. She was born in Sebewa Township, on February 3, 1925, the daughter of Raymond M. and Anna L. (Zanto) Cross. She dedicated many years of service to the Health Department, eventually retiring from the State of Michigan. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Orange Thimble Club. Doris had a zest for life- finding joy in the simple pleasures, often delighting in completing crossword puzzles, indulging in occasional shopping trips, and embarking on travel adventures near and far. Her adventurous spirit knew no bounds, and she embraced each new experience with grace and enthusiasm. Among her most cherished memories were the summers spent with her family on the Muskegon River. Those moments of laughter and togetherness created enduring bonds that will be treasured forever.
Doris is preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Donald Shattuck; son-in-law, James Dillard; sisters, Dorothy Fedewa, Barbara Day, and Kate Possehn-Weller; and brother, Clare Cross. She is survived by her children, Janey Dillard of Flushing, Jim (Judi Phare) Shattuck of Portland, and Jacqueline Shattuck of Chicago; grandchildren, Erik (Sara) Siegrist and Kristin (Marco) Gonzales-Vega; great-grandchildren, Abigail Siegrist, Desmond Siegrist, Mara Gonzales, and Zoey Gonzales.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Portland Cemetery.
