Obituary for Betty Miriam (Sumner) Beech

Betty Miriam Beech, 93, of Portland died August 20, 2021.

The Lehman Funeral Home is serving the family and a private family memorial service is planned. Her family prefers memorial contributions to be made in her name to Grace Hospice, Okemos MI.

She was born in April 1928 to Elmer and Florence (Bessemer) Sumner one of seven siblings.

She married Walter Deal Beech in May of 1945. They had four children Michael, Daniel, Timothy and Betsy.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Walter, daughter Betsy, six sisters and one brother.

Surviving her are her sons Michael (Susan), Daniel (Janice), Timothy (Barbara), nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

As a young woman she attended Portland schools, and along with a couple of her sisters sang on a radio station. During WWII she volunteered as a nurse's aide at a local hospital, then later she worked a short time at GM. Betty loved to cook and bake, music, reading, nature, "Jeopardy", her pets (cat-Joey) most of all loved her family especially her grandchildren.

A special thanks to all who cared for her at PALMC, especially Rachel, Chelsea, Sandi and Kim. Grace Hospice and Staff were very helpful and kind.

Betty will be missed by her family and friends. May she rest in peace.
