Lady Shamrocks lose in District Final
On Friday, March 4th, the #1 ranked Shamrocks played the #2 ranked Fowler Eagles for the District Finals. The Shamrocks had pulled out two close victories over the Eagles in the regular season, but hot shooting from the Eagles helped them defeat the Shamrocks 50-41.
In the first quarter, the Eagles hit three- 3 pointers, and ended up winning the quarter 11-9. Katelyn Russell led the Shamrocks with 3 points, Lydia Meredith, Laynie Meredith and Mara Schrauben all put in a bucket.
The second quarter was dead even, with both teams scoring 10. The Eagles hit two more 3 pointers to hold off the Shamrocks. Lydia Meredith led the Shamrocks with 6 points, and the Eagles took a 21-19 lead into the half.
After half, both teams again battled, and scored 10. Lydia Meredith again led the Shamrocks, scoring 6 points, and the Eagles took a 31-29 lead going into the final quarter.
The final quarter was every bit as competitive as the rest of the game, with the Shamrocks taking a lead late in the quarter before another 3 pointer from the Eagles put them on top and they played ball defense for the final few minutes.
Offensive leaders for the Shamrocks were Lydia Meredith with 19 points 8 rebounds and 4 steals, and Katelyn Russell with 11 points and 4 rebounds.
Coach Al Schrauben was understandably disappointed with the ending. "This was a very tough loss, Fowler hit some big shots. We got the lead late, but they answered. We had a great season. I am very thankful to my staff, and girls and our fans."
