Lady Shamrocks defeat P-W


On Thursday, January 27th, the Pewamo-Westphalia Pirates travelled to Portland to take on the undefeated Portland St. Patrick Shamrocks. From start to finish, the Shamrock defense was just too aggressive, and the Shamrocks defeated the Pirates handily, by a score of 55-34.


In the first quarter, the Shamrock defense was stifling, holding the Pirates to only 3 points. Lydia Meredith led the Shamrocks scoring 6 points, and Mara Schrauben had three, and Katelyn Russell had 2 points to lead the Shamrocks to an 11-3 lead after one quarter.


In the second quarter, the Shamrock scoring machine came alive, with Lydia going off for 7, and four other Shamrocks balanced out the scoring, leading to an 18-9 quarter and taking a 29-12 lead into the half.


After the half it was more dominance from the Shamrocks, with Lydia scoring 8 and Mara Schrauben scoring 4, Jamelyn Forist and Natalee Teachworth both chipped in free throws. The Shamrocks won the third quarter 14-9 and took a 43-21 lead into the final quarter.


The fourth quarter saw Rylee Scheurer put in 5 points, and the Shamrocks cruised to the win, losing the quarter 13-12.


Shamrock leaders were Lydia Meredith with 21 points 10 rebounds 5 steals and 2 assists, Mara Schrauben with 9 points 5 rebounds and 1 steal, Rylee Scheurer with 8 points 1 rebound and 2 steals, and Katelyn Russell with 6 points 6 rebounds 2 steals and 3 assists.


The Shamrocks travel to Fowler for a huge grudge match against the #2 ranked Fowler Eagles for the league championship. The game will be next Tuesday, February 1st at 7:00 pm. at Fowler.
