The Lady Raiders closed out their cross-country season at the MHSAA Regional meet hosted by Grand Rapids South Christian. Despite brisk 35-degree temperatures and a very wet course, the sun made a welcome appearance as the girls took on their final race of the year.
Paige Weber led the Raiders with a strong time of 21:25, placing 29th out of 90 runners. She was followed by Lauren Spitzley (23:25), Veda Smith (24:12), Claire Lyon (25:48), Abby Seavey (27:14), Addison Cody (28:41), and Willa Almy (28:48).
This season was not without its challenges. The injury-plagued Raiders persevered despite losing four contributing runners during the heat of the early season. Their resilience was matched only by the leadership of the seven seniors who wrapped up their Raider cross country careers with remarkable improvement:
• Abby Seavey – improved by nearly 5 minutes
• Brynn Nelson – improved by 4 minutes (junior year) despite missing much of this season to injury
• Claire Lyon – improved by 2 minutes
• Jorja McFarland – improved by 5 minutes
• Lauren Spitzley – improved by 4 minutes
• Veda Smith – improved by 6 minutes
• Willa Almy – improved by over 4 minutes
Thank you, seniors, for your dedication, leadership, and heart. Your hard work and commitment have left a lasting mark on the program. We wish you all the best in your next chapter!
