Lady Raiders top Lansing Catholic for share of CAAC White Crown
The gymnasium at Portland High School was packed on Friday night as the Portland varsity basketball squads hosted league rival Lansing Catholic.
In the first match-up of the night, the Lady Raiders were looking for revenge after falling to the Cougars back on January 14th by a score of 55-52. That was Portland’s only blemish on its otherwise perfect record.
The Lady Raider defense was successful in challenging the Cougars powerful three-point shooters, keeping them to single digits in the first and third quarters.
Portland was able to tally up 53 points in the contest and secure a 53-41 victory. The win should also secure Portland a share of the CAAC White League Championship.
Portland was led offensively by senior Ashley Bower with 22 points, and senior Ava Guilford with 13 points. Seniors Breckyn Werner and Alivia Densmore added nine and seven points respectively.
After the game Portland Head Coach Jason Haid, and seniors Ava Guilford and Ashley Bower spoke to the media. You can find video of that below.
