With the upcoming arrival of Spring, or at least somewhat warmer weather, drivers can expect the large reconstruction project on I-96 to restart in the coming weeks.
The eight-mile stretch of I-96 between Bliss Road (Berlin Township) and Sunfield Road (Orange Township) is being reconstructed as part of the Rebuilding Michigan program to rebuild the state highways and bridges that are critical to the state's economy and carry the most traffic.
While much of the work was completed on the west bound lanes last year, the east bound lanes are planned to be reconstructed between now and November 2026 as part of the $130 million project.
According to the MDOT website for this project:
· Lane closures, traffic shifts, and ramp closures will be in effect throughout the project.
· The eastbound I-96 ramps at Jordan Lake Road and M-66 will be closed.
