The following text is from an announcement issued by the City of Portland on January 6, 2026, at 12:30PM.

The City of Portland is aware of rising water levels and ice accumulation on the Grand River. City staff are actively monitoring infrastructure and are coordinating with Ionia County Emergency Management and our public safety partners.

We have received reports of minor basement flooding in some buildings adjacent to the Grand River. Weather conditions can change rapidly, and residents are encouraged to take appropriate steps to protect their property and personal safety.

Emergency services will continue to monitor river and ice conditions, as well as upcoming weather forecasts.

Please note that several sections of the Portland River Trail are currently flooded and impassable, including areas near Bogue Flats, Thompson Field, and Two Rivers Park/Bandshell.

Further and fastest updates will be provided on the City FB Page.
