Bradley Meyers gets 100th career win as Raider Wrestlers continue successful season
It was Championships Week for the Portland Raider Wrestlers, and all three teams made solid showings. On 2/1, the Portland Girls Wrestling team participated in the CAAC Girls League competition at Holt taking 5th overall out of 18 teams with only five wrestlers competing. Georgia Stahl was champion at 105 points. Also placing for the Raiders were R. Johns (235, 2nd), A. Pettit (110, 3rd), J. Miller (140, 5th), and M. Pohl (170, 3rd).
Varsity A Boys also competed in their CAAC All Conference (White, Blue, and Red) Championship on the same day, tying for 4th out of 20 schools with only six wrestlers present. Champions in their weight classes were Branlun Simon (106) and Landon Lanz (113). Also placing for the Raiders were B. Spitzley (215, 5th), M. McGregor (150, 3rd), B. Meyers (175, 2nd), and G. Williams (190, 4th). Bradley Meyers earned his 100th win at the event, a huge accomplishment. Also, Barrett Spitzley was also awarded the Lansing Wrestling Officials Association Scholarship. He was one of only five seniors to earn the award in the area.
Varsity B also competed in the CAAC JV Championship at Fowlerville taking 10th out of 20 teams with only 9 wrestlers competing. M. DiOrio (175) placed 3rd out of 18 wrestlers in his bracket. T. Sands (106) and G. Burgoyne (144) each placed 4th. Well done, Raiders.
Earlier in the week, seven of the Girls team competed in Mason, achieving the win over Lakewood (42-18) and competing fiercely but falling to Fowlerville (24-28). Scoring for the Raiders were R. Johns (235), M. Pohl (170), A. Pettit (110), G. Stahl (105), J Miller (140), A. Brown (120), and A. Adler (115).
On 1/27, the Varsity B team made the very windy trek to Charlotte to compete in round robin individual competition. Undefeated on the night was Brayden Hinds (144) and Chase Fullet (175). Also winning matches were T. Sands (106), W. Ingraham (150), L. Valles (126), E. Keilen (132), R. Palma (150), and M. DiOrio (190).
