Barrett Spitzley gets 100th career win during busy week for Raider Wrestling
The Portland Raider wrestlers had another great week on the mat. Despite the intense cold and the cancellation of one event, the Varsity A team traveled to Mason for a double dual and achieved a win over Eaton Rapids, 54-15. Scoring for the Raiders were B. Simon (106), L. Lanz (113), I. Kramer (132), Z. Stanton (138), G. Opperman (150), M. McGregor (157), L. Espinoza (165), L. Guilford (175), B. Meyers (190), S. Goodman (215), and B. Spitzley (285) with a very physical match that went all three rounds for a single-point win.
That same night, the Raiders fell to Mason, 27-41, in a very competitive match. Scoring for the Raiders were B. Simon (106), L. Lanz (113), Z. Stanton (138), L. Espinoza (165), B. Meyers (190), and B. Spitzley (285), bringing Portland’s team record to 15-4 this season.
Varsity A also traveled to the Shepherd John Harris Invite and placed 2nd out of 19 teams. Champions for the Raiders were Landon Guilford (165), Bradley Meyers (175). Also on the podium were C. Fullet (175, 4th), S. Goodman (190, 3rd), B. Spitzley (215, 2nd), B. Simon (3rd), and L. Lanz (113, 2nd). Barrett Spitzley earned his 100th win at the tournament, a huge accomplishment. The Varsity B team participated in individual competition in Lakewood on Saturday. Every Raider wrestler won matches. Michael DiOrio was undefeated (175, 5-0). Also making notable showings for the Raiders were E. Keilen (126, 4-1), G. Ingraham (175, 4-1), and W. Ingraham (150, 3-2).
The Girls team also traveled to Mason and competed against Eaton Rapids, battling hard, but falling 9-45 on Wednesday. They then traveled to Ovid-Elsie for an individual tournament on Friday evening. The team finished 7th out of 58 teams with three placers: Georgia Stahl (3rd, 105), Rylan Johns (3rd, 235), and Jonnie Miller (4th, 140). Also scoring for the Raiders were A. Adler (115) with a pair of wins and A. Pettit (110) with a win by fall.
