Obituary for Lonnie Melvin Hinkle

Lonnie Melvin Hinkle, age 85, of Portland, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2020. He was born on March 1, 1935 in Marfrance, West Virginia. Lonnie retired from General Motors in 1990 after 35 years of service. Lonnie was an extraordinarily kind, strong and loving family man. He treasured spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; they had a way about being able to make him laugh and smile. Lonnie was the strength of his family and he will be deeply missed, especially by the "squaw", but his memory will live on and carry them through.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Doyle and Edith (Short) Hinkle; brothers, Willard Hinkle and Carrol Hinkle; and sister, Edith Marie Johnson. Surviving are his beloved wife of 49 years, Margaret; children, Cheryl Winter, Dale Hinkle, Donna (James) Rogers, Frank Mund, Diana (Tom) Burnie, and Debra (Rick Reed) Beedy; grandchildren, Sam, Kristina, Amanda, Josh, Nick, Jordan, Troy, Megan, Stephanie, Tiffany, Will, Candy, Katie, Sy, and Dane; 31 great-grandchildren with one on the way; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth (Hazel) Hinkle; and sister, Mildred "Wavie" Beauchamp.

Private family funeral services will be held at this time. Interment will be in West Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hospice of Lansing in honor of Lonnie. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
